What is plasma/fibroblast skin tightening?

Plasmage is a very safe, minimally invasive and effective type of treatment that utilises plasma technology. Plasma consists of ionised particles which are charged. Plasmage uses plasma to modify the skin by sublimation (turning the surface into gas). This beam generates heat and causes sublimation of the outermost part of the epidermis (skin), without damage to the surrounding structures of the skin. The tissue underneath is protected from heat whilst the surface of the skin contracts and heals in order to effect results. Healing is quick and scar-free, improving skin elasticity and resulting in smoothness. Plasmage is a very precise treatment which gives good correction with minimal downtime. The results are long lasting.

Usually just one treatment is required with effects lasting minimum 2-3 years but very often for years!

Side effects:

Redness and/or oedema

Possible risks and complications:

Plasmage is a relatively safe treatment. After the initial swelling and crust formation, both of which is normal, there will be pink “baby” skin which will initially be itchy and then slowly achieve normal colouring.

The risks include:

  • Purpura (red-purple discolouration, bruising)/Skin Colour/Textural Changes (skin can remain pink for up to 4 weeks)

  • Swelling (this is profuse and may last up to 7 days, especially on treatment of the eyes)

  • Scabbing & Crusting (so-called Carbon-crust, which usually resolved within 5-10 days but can take significantly longer)

How does the treatment look like? (approx 1.5 h- one area)

  1. Consultation and assessment of the area. Understanding of the procedure, indications, contraindications, side effects, patient’s questions and signing consent form

  2. Make-up removal

  3. Disinfection of the area

  4. Numbing of the treatment area

  5. Plasma treatment for the selected area

  6. Disinfection

  7. Applying healing cream with spf 50

  8. Aftercare leaflet

Post treatment care

Aftercare is as important as your treatment. If you do not perform good aftercare your results will be severely affected.

  • Immediately after the procedure small scabs are visible. Do not rub them up to 15 days after the procedure, after a few days they will start crumbling and disappear after about 7-10 days

  • The swelling and/or redness may persist for 2-3 days.

  • The day after the treatment, clean the area using very mild soap - rinse but do not rub. Apply Kelo Cote gel to the treated area 2-3x day plus a filter spf 50. Continue this routine for 12 weeks.

  • Wash the ointment with a cotton swab and luke warm water. Do not rub but pat the area.

  • Do not use moisturisers, shower gels and perfume to the area that has received treatment until fully healed

  • For about 12 weeks the skin may be sensitive and susceptible to external factors. For this reason appropriate care is essential - use gentle non-irritant, alcohol free skin cleansers and high-quality skin care cream to accelerate skin regeneration and reduce erythema with spf 50.

  • Avoid wearing make-up until crusts will fall off completely. After this time, you can wear mineral make-up until the treated area has healed.

  • Use fresh and clean towel.

  • Change pillowcase

  • Do not have a contact with pets (avoid touching pets with your face)

  • Keep hydrated. Drink plenty of water.

  • When all the scabs disappear you will see the pink, new baby skin (formation of new skin)

  • You must protect the treated area from sunlight, so the use of a cream with Spf 50 for at least 12 weeks after treatment is mandatory to avoid discolouration/hyperpigmentation

  • Avoid sun exposure and tanning booths for 12 weeks.

  • Warning: Sun exposure= hyperpigmentation!!!

  • Wear sunglasses in direct sunlight.

  • Avoid exposure to intense heat or cold for 4 weeks post treatment e.g. very hot showers, saunas, Turkish baths and extremely cold conditions.

  • Avoid visits to swimming pool and gym (bacterial exposure) for 7-10 days

  • Smoking can cause problems with the blood flow to the wounds and treatment areas. Smoking may affect the healing process and overall outcome. I advise you to quit

  • Do not cover the area with plasters, it will scar!

  • It is recommended to not consume substantial quantities of alcohol for 10- 14 days after treatment.

  • Failure to comply with aftercare instructions can result in diminished results and poor outcome

  • Your review appointment is scheduled individually

  • Failure to attend your follow up appointment means that I cannot assess, reassure and possibly help you should you need it
